Squid is a tasty fish and tastes entirely different from other fish. Good thing about squid is that it  cooks fast so while cooking stop at the right stage before it becomes rubbery. This is an easy to prepare dish in minutes and tastes heavenly. With Rice and Rasam it is a Finger licking dish.

      All Squid preparations are  my family favorite. You can cut squid into rings and also prepare this dish. If you cut into small cubes the masalas enter into the fish because of more surface area. This dish will be ready in 5- 10 minutes.

Squid Thoran


Squid, cubes or rings- 250 grams (1-1½ cup)
Onion, chopped-1-1½ (1 cup)
Green chilli, chopped -2
Garlic, chopped -2 cloves
Ginger, chopped- 1 teaspoon
Turmeric powder- ¼ teaspoon
Chilli powder- 1-1 ½ teaspoons
Curry leaves- 2 strands
Salt- to taste
Oil-2 teaspoons

To grind as Coarse paste:
Coconut, grated- ½ cup
Jeera/ cumin seeds- ½ teaspoon 

  • Grind coconut and jeera as a coarse paste in a blender.
  • In a shallow pan add oil then add onion and green chillies cook till it starts to become soft. Then add garlic, ginger and curry leaves; cook till the raw smell leaves for about thirty seconds.
  • Add squid (drain all water well by squeezing between hands) and salt. When the water from squid starts to oozes out by heat ; add turmeric and chilli powder; mix well and cook in high flame to evaporate the water oozing out from squid.
  • When the water almost evaporates, add the ground coconut mixture and curry leaves; mix well and cook for a minute or two. Add extra curry leaves if you wish.
