Falafel sandwich is a yummy replacement for chicken/meat shawarma and are a perfect fit for vegetarians. The fritters (falafel) are now found around the world as a replacement for meat and as a form of street food.

      Falafel is a deep-fried ball or patty made from ground chickpeas, fava beans, or both. Falafel sandwich is a traditional Arab food, usually served in a Pita bread, which acts as a pocket, or wrapped in a flat bread known as lafa; "falafel" also frequently refers to a wrapped sandwich that is prepared in this way. The falafel balls are topped with salads, pickled vegetables, hot sauce, and drizzled with tahini-based sauces.
INGREDIENTS
Arabic Pita bread (khubz)/ Phulka /Chapattis, Tortillas or any flat bread - 6
Hummus/ shawarma sauce/ tahini/ cheese spread- 6 tablespoons
Falafel- 3 pieces/ sandwich
Brinjal/ Aubergines, chopped- 1(optional)
French fries- ¼ kg
Cucumber, chopped-1
Tomato, deseeded and chopped-1-2
Lettuce- 5 leaves
Thick yoghurt- ½ cup
Salt- to taste
Chilli sauce- 6 teaspoons (optional)

PROCEDURE

  • Make falafel using channa ans deep fry it.
  • Subsequently also deep fry the french fries.
  • Cut the brinjal into 2” pieces and keep in water. Deep fry the brinjal pieces in hot oil till slightly crisp. 
  • Mix the yoghurt with cucumber, tomato and lettuce. Season this mixture with salt.
  • Open the khubz with knife/hand. You could replace Arabic Pita bread (khubz) with Phulka /chapattis, tortillas or any flat bread made without oil.
  •  Apply a tablespoon of the sauce (Hummus/shawarmah sauce/tahini sauce/ cheese spread) you like and keep 3 falafel and mash with hand little/spoon. Keep french fries, fried  brinjal, 3spoon ful of yoghurt vegetable mixture.
  • Drizzle the chilli sauce over mixture.
  •   



     
     
  • Close the khubz, roll it and wrap it with paper sheets.
  • Serve hot.
