Banana Stem Juice | Vazhai Thandu Juice | Vazha Pindi Juice: When the banana bunch is harvested the tree is cut away and the banana stem is used as food which has many medicinal properties. The banana stem has fiber – this is very beneficial for those on a weight loss program. It is also a rich source of potassium and vitamin B6 which helps in the production of insulin and hemoglobin.

Eating banana stem once a week keeps high blood pressure in control. Banana stem also maintains fluid balance within the body. It is a diuretic and helps detoxify the body. The popular belief is that eating banana stem is very good for kidney stones.

Vazhai thandu Juice

Salt Version:
INGREDIENTS:
Banana Stem- 1/2 cup
Yogurt/curd- 1/2 cup
Ginger- 1/4 inch (optional)
Water-1/4 cup
Pepper powder- 1 pinch
Jeera powder- big pinch
Salt- to taste

PROCEDURE:
  • Cut the banana stem in to roundels and remove the fibre coming out using your fingers.
  • Then chop them into pieces and keep inside water or buttermilk to avoid browning. 
  • In a blender jar add the banana stem, yogurt and blend well till the banana stem grind well. (Add a piece of ginger if you like)
  • Now add little chilled water and dilute the juice and add the pepper and jeera powder for taste.
  • Blend once more and serve in a glass.
  • Serve chilled.
  • Note: Pepper powder could be replaced with green chilli.
Sweet version:
INGREDIENTS:
Banana stem- 1/2 cup
Yogurt/curd- 1/2 cup
Sugar- 1 tablespoon(add according to your taste)
  • Add every thing inside a blender jar and pulse to make a puree. Add 1/4 cup of chilled water and whip well and serve chilled.
