Cabbage Thoran is one of my favourite stirfry with coconut. I like that the cabbage is finely chopped in this recipe to make this thoran. Perfect with rasam as a great combination. Quick and easy stir fry which could be made in minutes. Healthy as it does not involve a long cooking process.
Last year I had prepared this thoran and clicked pictures one too many to post. To be honest with you I was actually rather unhappy with the outcome. Due to one or the other reason this post made me wait to be officially posted. Some how, after a lot of struggle I made it yesterday and clicked a satisfactory picture; here I am, finally posting it today.

PROCEDURE:
- Grind the coconut, jeera and garlic together as a coarse paste without adding any water.
- Finely chop the cabbage, onion and green chillies; set aside.
- Heat oil in a pan and splutter the mustard seeds; add the chana dal, urad dhal, dry red chillies(optional) and curry leaves.
- Add the chopped onion and green chillies together; cook till it becomes soft.
- Add the cabbage, turmeric powder and some salt; stir well and cook in low flame till it starts to sweat for about thirty seconds.
- Cover it with a lid and cook for about 5 minutes.
- Now open the lid and add the coconut paste and mix well; cook till the raw smell of the garlic leaves.
- Note: You could make poriyal tamil style by doing slight changes in this recipe by adding jeera while tempering and garlic with onions and once the cabbge is cooked add the freshly grated coconut.
